Interesting fact: Tolmezzo is a town in the province of Udine, which is part of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northeastern Italy. Tolmezzo is located at the foot of Mount Strabut, between the Tagliamento River and the Bût Stream. Nearby is Mount Amariana, with an altitude of 1,906 meters. The existence of Tolmezzo (called Tolmetium) is first documented at the end of the 10th century, when the municipality was part of the Patriarchate of Aquileia. However, it is believed that the town originated from a very ancient pre-Roman settlement. The town had a thriving market and was defended by a line of walls with 18 towers and the patriarch's castle. In 1420, the town was annexed to the Republic of Venice, but crafts and industry did not suffer from this change and the town retained its privileges. In 1866, Tolmezzo became part of the newly unified Kingdom of Italy.
